First responders were dispatched to the Patchogue station near the Ocean Avenue and Division Street intersection shortly after 2 a.m. on Friday, July 12, for reports of a person who had been struck by a non-passenger work train, an MTA spokesperson said.
The person - whose gender has not been released - was reportedly laying on the tracks when the train came across the railroad crossing just east of the station. Officials noted the person did not have the authorization to be on the tracks at the time of the strike.
According to the MTA, the person who was struck survived, and was transported to a local hospital with a broken right arm.
LIRR service on the Montauk Branch was suspended for a short stretch of time overnight while MTA police investigated. The line was reopened in time for the morning commute. The incident remains under investigation by MTA police.
